Play it cool

Solo or Sold-Out

Have you ever watched an artist just rip it?

I just watched this happen a couple weekends back. A crew of us were in a small town bar. This local guy stepped up to the piano and just crushed a set. And lemme tell ya… we all felt it.

Great Balls of Fire followed by 5 O'Clock Somewhere… this guy had range.

When someone shares their gift, when they play from their soul, then they gift the rest of us permission to also let go.

Cool people invite you in to experience their world. To witness their gift. But, I’m under the impression, that they’d be performing their version of cool even if we weren't there to share in it.

Take Billy Joel for instance…

How many times has this guy played at MSG?

More than any other artist!!!

(How bout that for a lifetime feat)

Even though I don’t know the guy, I’m convinced that BJ would be jamming whether he was in the living room of his home or in front of a screaming crowd at a sold-out stadium.

He’s out there to perform his act of creation

He’s doing it to give his gift away

But - just to be clear - whether he gets paid or it’s for free

This cool creator would be doing it anyway

Whether it’s THE Piano Man or our hometown legend,

He’s just doing his thing, saying:

“Come on in.

Pull up a chair & listen!

I don’t really care what you think about the music.

I’m still gonna play it cool.

And this here, this is my rendition.”
